I admit that I am not an internet wizard. I don’t blog or even fully understand the concept. I prefer personal contact with people as opposed to virtual relationships. Even though my significant other and I met through Match.com (we only ‘talked’ online a couple of times before we met in person), I have a REAL problem with MySpace.
I know a family who is in constant turmoil and crisis due to the postings on individual’s MySpace pages. It has become the way for families to trash one another, choose temporary favorites, and in general create pain, division and heartache. These people literally check what is being said about whom on a daily basis. And what they post is vicious. Truly vicious. Secrets are shared and accusations made, keeping this family constantly at odds with each other. And of course the harshest punishment for some perceived indignation is to be blocked. It’s the modern day version of locking an offending person in the attic, never to be heard from again.
Family is hard enough without all of this constant churning. Forgiveness is hard enough without someone always stirring the pot of insecurity and hatred thanks to an online social tool.
And let’s not EVEN get me started on the perverts who can ‘steal’ a photo or bio from a MySpace page for their personal gratification…

I agree and I am so happy that California and Missouri and many others are following suit and designing laws that are going after these morons that harassed others online.
The one case that ended in suicide due to harassment by some kids mom on myspace is going for 20 years that is very minimal when the 16 year old girl is Now dead because that ignorant witch played her evil games on the poor young lady. Online harassment is in the process of a felony law that I say it is about time the law makers are waking up to these awful brutal crimes. When death is the result I see No reason Not going after the eye for the eye for the punishment.
God bless Meagan and her poor family that has been dragged through the mud on this fight that they are going to win! Bless you Meagan and I hope that these New laws help enforce respect and decent behavior to other people online. Life is tough enough without the horrible disrespect and heart breaking torture that the horrible old lady put this beautiful young lady, Meagan through online that ended Meagan's life before it had even started.

Why is everyone always pointing the finger at myspace?? I actually love myspace. I have found SOO many of my old friends there that I probably never would have found if it had not been for myspace! I have also made some great new friends along the way. It is a great way to keep in touch with people that you can't see every day!
Myspace just gets a bad reputation because of the PEOPLE using it. It's not myspace's fault. It's the people's fault! It's not myspace's fault that people are spreading vicious rumors about each other. People do that in real life every day! Whether it be in high school or the work force! Myspace can't ban idiots from signing up. Idiots are everywhere. People just blame myspace because it is easier to blame them than to blame the people who are causing the problems!
