A local legend died earlier this week. Just two months after his induction into the Fostoria Athletic Hall of Fame, Cecil Jackson died at 61 on March 17 in Mesa, Ariz. Jackson was born in Fostoria and many of his siblings still reside here. He graduated from Fostoria High School in 1964. While there he made his mark in three sports, lettering four times in basketball and track and three times in football.
His brothers, Grant and Carlos, were previous FHS Hall of Fame inductees.
As his obituary notes, "He loved sports his entire life. He excelled in football, basketball, baseball and track. ... CJ loved life and he loved to help others along his life journey."
Jackson was always a team player, both on the field and off.
"As you see, I was on a team a lot," Jackson told the crowd at the January ceremony. After graduating from Bowling Green State University, he went into retail. "I was all about the team and not the individual -- even into retail."
Funeral and visitation service will be at the City of Grace Church in Mesa, Ariz. on Friday, March 21 at noon. Grave site service will be at Fountain Cemetery in Fostoria via private grave site service.
Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 25, at the Bethel Baptist Church, 500 E. Jackson St., Fostoria. For the complete obituary, click here.
Our sympathies to the Jackson family for the loss of this great man and remarkable athlete.
